The CDMA-850 is a device used to boost the cell phone reception to the local area by the usage of a reception antenna, a signal amplifier and an internal rebroadcast antenna. These are similar to the cellular broadcast towers used to broadcast by the network providers, but much smaller in size. The CDMA-850 amplifier works by rebroadcasting cellular signals inside the building. The system uses an external, directional antenna to collect the best cellular signal, which is then transmitted to an amplifier unit, which amplifies the signal, and retransmits it locally, providing significantly improved signal strength. However, the system cannot boost signals if you are located in an area without any signal to start (dead zone).
The CDMA-850 is a single-band system, which supports a single carrier and single band therefore you, must choose the correct system based upon your carrier and you should check with your cell phone carrier to determine the frequency band(s) that is being used. The advantage of single band systems is that they can be optimized to provide greater coverage than a comparably priced dual-band system.

The CDMA-850 requires no physical connection to your phone. An outside antenna receives the signal from the cell tower; the signal is amplified by the CDMA-850 unit and repeated to your cell phone through the antenna inside the amplifier unit. No physical connection to your phone means you now have the freedom to walk around while talking on your phone. This technology allows clean and clear wireless functioning of multiple cell phones operating on 850 MHz band, with a coverage area up to 5,000 square feet (500 square meter).
Note: Coverage area is based upon a minimum outside signal strength of 70% or better. As outside signal strength decreases, coverage area decreases. To maintain safe and specific output signal levels, the repeater automatically controls the gain depending upon the strength of input signals. It is designed to improve the call or data transmission quality of an area by receiving, amplifying and re-transmitting signals of the base station into a specified area.
